Pseudoknot

In an unspecified future humanity is running low on conventional energy sources, triggering a large-scale economic crisis and panic through the population.

At the peak of this crisis an alien monolith lands in an abandoned diamond mine in Siberia. Humanity soon finds out that they can extract an infinite amount of electricity by probing its shell. 

A facility is built inside the chasm of the mine, aiming to extract energy from the alien and study it. You are an engineer working at that facility.
